DAY 0 WELCOME TO CUSCO

6:00pm Trip briefing in the evening: meet your guide and fellow travelers for some pre-trip details and Q&A’s.

DAY 1 INTO THE SACRED VALLEY

Begin your journey by hiking from the heart of Cusco to explore the nearby archaeological sites of Sacsayhuaman and Q’enqo, followed by a scenic drive to Lake Piuray and an afternoon full of activity options. Enjoy an early farm-to table dinner on the lakeshore before returning to Cusco in the evening.

    DAY 2 OLLANTAYTAMBO

    Today you will go deeper into the Sacred Valley. Spend the morning either mountain biking or ziplining, followed by lunch in Ollantaytambo, the oldest ‘living’ city in South America. Afterwards, explore the Ollantaytambo archaeological site with your guide before leaving the Sacred Valley on a scenic drive into Lares.

      Tackle two amazing hikes through the breathtaking Lares region today, along with a stop to explore the secluded Yukumarka archaeological site along the route.

        DAY 4 ANCASMARCA TO LAMAY

        Enjoy the spectacular views on a downhill morning hike from Ancasmarca to Totora on an original Inca trail. You will pass through Andean potato farms, hidden Inca tombs, and you may even bump into herds of llamas and alpacas that live in the area. After lunch and a short drive from Totora to Calispuquio, spend the early afternoon mountain biking to Lamay Lodge and the rest of the day relaxing in the sunny Lamay gardens and outdoor jacuzzi.

          DAY 5 EXPLORING LAMAY AND THE URUBAMBA RIVER VALLEY

          Spend the first part of the day horseback riding through the picturesque countryside of the Lamay Valley or biking along the Urubamba River through charming towns and past Spanish Colonial haciendas. Afterwards, return to the lodge for a traditional Pachamanca lunch and relaxing afternoon at leisure.

            DAY 6 KM 104

            Catch an early-morning train from Ollantaytambo to the KM 104 rail marker and begin your final hike to Machu Picchu. First, you will cross the Chachabamba Bridge and climb to Wiñay Wayna for a picnic lunch and exploration of the archaeological site. In the early afternoon, continue climbing until you reach your destination: Intipunku, the celebrated ‘Sun Gate’ entrance to the Machu Picchu citadel.*

            *Note: Does not include visit to Machu Picchu on this day; hikers will descend along the perimeter of the citadel to catch a shuttle bus to Aguas Calientes.

            DAY 6 ACTIVITY

              DAY 7 MACHU PICCHU

              The day begins with breakfast at dawn and a shuttle bus ride back to Machu Picchu. Spend the morning hiking up Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain*, followed by lunch at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. After lunch, return to the citadel for a two-hour guided tour before your late afternoon/early evening journey back to Cusco.

                • ● Service of a bilingual guide (Spanish/English) during all program days. Tours of archaeological sites are led in English.
                • ● Entrance fees and permits for points of interest and archeological sites.
                • ● Guided visit to Machu Picchu.
                • ● Gratuities for MLP staff at the lodges and in the field—does NOT include gratuities for the staff at affiliate hotels. 
                • ● Gratuities for your guide and assistant guide are NOT included and are at your discretion. In general, we suggest $10-$20 USD/day (per person) for lead guides and $10 USD/day (per person) for assistant guides.
