Our favorite cultural activities were Museo Inkariy (the pre-Hispanic cultural museum near Calca), the cooking class at Huacahuasi Lodge, the weaving and pottery demonstrations, and stops to visit local markets. Our favorite cultural sites were the Salineras de Maras and the archaeological sites at Ollantaytambo and, of course, Machu Picchu.
The two MLP lodges were beautiful, well designed and well run, with good food and a most welcoming staff. It was pleasant to be part of a small group in such intimate and spectacular settings. We appreciated having the lodges to ourselves all the more after staying in more crowded and impersonal hotels the last two nights of the trip.

Our feet hit the ground once we got home and we haven’t slowed down until today. We had the most fantastic trip. It was amazing and we are changed in the best ways…slower, clearer and calmer. Our guide Antonio is a terrific horseman as well as guide and marvelous human being. The horses are the fittest, safest and happiest horses we have ever come across.
The rarified air and Salkantay Mountain are now part of our DNA.

Perhaps, if there’s one thing to learn from some of the remote villages of Peru — and the Inca civilization and ancient Andean cultures — it’s this: Create your own world, and live your life, starting with the basics.

MLP knows how to plan and so much was done to make our experience first class that we didn’t see. The lodges were cozy, our cooks Freddie and Luce always prepared wholesome and delicious meals for us whether in a tent for lunch or at the lodges.

Let me start by saying the MLP trek was THE BEST travel experience of my life! MLP gets an unqualified enthusiastic FIVE STARS. I’d do it again tomorrow in a flash!
